So I'm having a problem that I think plagues every good writer at some point: how to avoid the constant use of flashbacks to tell a story. They are convenient in the sense of telling the full story when its needed, but I'm not a particular fan of interrupting the storyline just to add the background. I've been able to fix this problem for things that were not too long ago in the story, using a "sewing" technique. However I am having an issue with this for larger parts of the story. e.g. noting the events of a man's life when he first as someone already dead.
I would like some advice on good alternatives to using a flashback.
much obliged
