I have a question. Writers are supposed to be disciplined and write every day, and I could do that, but usually if I don't have a particular project, book, article in mind, I just don't know what to write about-- meaning are we supposed to write just anything, as long as we're writing? Like journaling or like a diary? Like stories/experiences in our lives? Like pseudo-blogging? Not sure where I should focus. Any help? Thanks.

I think everyone has a different approach. Discipline is important, but if you find yourself writing away in the wee hours long past the time you should have retired for the night, give yourself a break on days you are strapped for time and inspiration. I journal, but if I miss days here and there I usually discover I have something pop into my head I am compelled to write about.
